Satou Sabally placed the Dallas Wings on her back and carried them to the WNBA playoffs.
The Wings’ and former Oregon Ducks’ star scored 28 of her career-high 40 points in the second half and powered the Wings to a 110-100 win over the Indiana Fever Friday night. The Wings clinched a playoff berth for the third consecutive season.
Sabally, who had missed the previous two games with an ankle injury, played as if she never missed a game. Sabally scored 40 points by making 13-of-17 shots from the field, including a career-high seven 3-pointers, while adding seven rebounds and four assists.
Sabally scored 13 points in the third quarter, helping Dallas take an 80-77 lead into the fourth quarter. She continued with her hot hand in the fourth quarter, opening with back-to-back 3-pointers. The Fever wouldn’t go away until Sabally made three consecutive 3-pointers to seal the game. Sabally scored 15 points in the quarter.
Sabally is the fifth player in Wings franchise history to score 40 points in a game, and the second this season, joining teammate Arike Ogunbowale. Sabally is averaging 18.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game, while shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc. All of the numbers are career-highs.
