From 12 to 17 September, at the end of the US Open, the group stage of the Davis Cup will be played. In the last few hours, there has been talk of the possible presence of Rafael Nadal in the Final Stages of the historic team competition.
Spain will obviously have to detach the pass for the quarterfinals by overcoming Serbia, the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea.Answering questions about Rafael Nadal’s future to the newspaper Marca, the new Spain captain David Ferrer released a sentence that thrilled the fans: “Nadal in the Davis Cup? It’s not a utopia.”In a special Davis Cup press conference held in Flushing Meadows, current tournament director Feliciano Lopez also expressed his desire to see Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal in action.
Feliciano Lopez’s dream about Nadal
Feliciano explained: “I think representing your country is the biggest goal.
I am very proud, as tournament director, to see the teams competing this year. Many of the best tennis players will be present. It is an honor to be director of a competition that I have always loved. You all know my passion. I like this format.
I think it’s great, because it has been designed according to the needs of the new generation of tennis players and the busy schedule. There are so many tournaments and it is very difficult for players to participate in all events.
It’s the best format possible right now. Nadal? You should ask Ferrer. It would be a dream for him to see Rafa and Carlos play together. Nadal is going through a period of rehabilitation, I think he’s fine. I spoke to him recently and he said things are good.
I don’t know if he intends to play Davis Cup. I would be super happy if he were there too. It would really be a dream for all of us to see Carlos and Rafa together. I think it’s too early to tell. I wish Rafa a speedy recovery. The most important thing is that Spain qualify for the Final Round of the tournament.”
