MATTHEWS, N.C. — Kyle Petty retired from NASCAR racing in 2008. Since then, he’s made his home in Matthews and worked for various networks as a race analyst, including his current role with NBC Sports.
More recently, Petty, a talkative and eclectic figure throughout his 30-year driving career, has found a new recipe for quenching his inveterate curiosity: combining conversation, cars and cuisine in a weekly TV show, “Dinner Drive with Kyle Petty.”
If you’re thinking a mashup of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” with a Southern accent, you’re in the right place.
And, while Petty has featured as guests North Carolina-based race-car drivers past and present — including his dad, Richard Petty, the winningest driver in NASCAR history — his new season includes familiar Charlotte faces from other sports: retired Carolina Panthers tight end and current Fox Sports lead NFL analyst Greg Olsen and retired Charlotte Hornets guard Muggsy Bogues, now a team ambassador.
