For those who are fans of both NCAA Basketball and football, Saturday was a big day for you. It was the first full weekend of the 2023-24 season, featuring many ranked teams playing. One of them was TCU, who made the CFB playoff the season prior. They took on Colorado and new head coach, Deion Sanders.

After leading Jackson State to some of its most successful campaigns in program history, the Hall of Fame former NFL cornerback took over a Buffaloes program that went 1-11 last season, including a few blowouts. It was hard to tell how good this completely revamped roster would ultimately look.

Turns out, pretty good. Colorado pulled out the massive upset to begin week 1, beating TCU on the road, 45-42. Deion’s son Shedeur Sanders went off for a program-record 510 yards and four touchdowns in his debut performance. Two-way star Travis Hunter had 11 catches for 119 yards as a receiver, along with three tackles and an interception while playing corner.

Rightfully so, all of the attention is going to be on Deion Sanders and his epic coaching debut at Colorado. But this has me thinking, what are the NCAA Basketball versions of this from a pure hype standpoint? There are certainly some coaches that not only had some hype but overachieved expectations to now be national names to this day.

Focusing on the past five years or so, here’s a list of five names that had similar national noise like Coach Deion Sanders, and where they stand now with their respective programs.
